Visiting Programs & Tours

Pleased to meet you. How can a big public university feel so welcoming? Are the facilities really that impressive? I know all the facts, but what does it feel like? Well, there are a few ways to begin getting some answers:

Open House programs are all about giving you the full Saluki experience. You can tour, meet with people from Admissions, Financial Aid, and University Housing, sit in on info sessions; and browse our information fair with representatives from all academic departments and student support programs. Be part of our next open house experience.

Individualized Visits are great for students who are serious about attending SIU. You’ll talk to an admission counselor, meet with a representative in your academic area of interest, take a tour with a current student, and see a residence hall room. It is important to register well before the day you want to visit, since these appointments are scheduled based on your interests.

Off-Campus Events are a chance for prospective students to visit SIU without leaving home.

SIU Carbondale will visit the Chicagoland area and St. Louis, MO in Spring 2014.  For more information, contact Amber Rivers at or 618-453-2988.

Group Visits are available for school and community organizations. With advanced notice, we can plan a campus experience to meet the needs of the group. To schedule a group visit, or for more information, please contact the Campus Visit Program at 618/453-7141 or by e-mail at

Admitted Student Days are a great way to experience campus in a more in-depth way than you’ve been able to see through Open House Programs and individual visits. These programs are built to give you the information you need to make an informed decision about SIU. At SIU, we are very focused on academics, and so are these programs. You will talk to faculty, Deans, advisors, current students, and a number of other campus members.

Special events Once a year, SIU hosts the Southern Illinois Regional College Fair to connect students with 75 to 100 public and private universities, community colleges, military, and technical schools from all parts of the United States.

I don’t know my way around yet.
